Implementing The Basics.
A quick update from the road.
Grateful hearts!
Good writing requires introspection and since the last time I clicked ‘publish’ I have been mostly in GO mode. It’s a funny time of year in Texas, where we go from our version of “winter” to full SPRING in a week. Last weekend was one where you could see that the trees got more green as the day went on. I mean, truly vivid.
And now this week, the bluebonnets. Ahead of schedule and particularly lush, we’ve never had this many at our house. Bluebonnets are so annoying to take a picture of, and it always look like something I’ve seen before, but not as good. Alas, some of the bluebonnets behind my house:
It was a big week astrologically- full moon, Saturn moving to Pisces. It was also the last week before Spring Break, which brings some unique energy and exhaustion to the forefront. And while I know enough to know that I need to keep drafting until an essay comes together, it's hard to keep going when everything feels like it means nothing.
A lot of my time and attention has also been taken up by The Basics. In particular:
I started a non-profit, Guadalupe Language and Literacy Inc. It will serve as the ‘backbone organization’ in our community’s Basics implementation. Bigger plans long term, but starting here.
I partnered with my daycare to roll out The Basics to parents.
Gave a short presentation to the staff at daycare.
Had a great zoom with the community liaison at The Basics.
Now focused on creating the social content for launching at our daycare and digging deep into The Basics implementation resources.
Over the next few months, the plan is to partner with a local pediatrician and church and fundraise, fundraise, fundraise.
And while all of that is well and good, there is nothing intrinsically interesting in it, no cauldrons from which to render meaning. And as a New Englander that also lived in Washington state for 5 years, there is always a bit of sadness to leave behind a winter that feels like it barely got started.
Not to mention, the moments that really have made my heart swell, like how I now have access to the individualized Basics Principles icons with transparant background in both .jpeg and .png format, put me in a distinct category of nerd that makes my husband roll his eyes and everyone else uncomfortable.
Several days have gone by since I last was here and now it is Spring Break! I totally didn’t finish this ‘sletter before we left for vacation, but I’m publishing what I have. Scroll down for a cool picture of river grass or check out some of my older posts:
Or this one, where I explain The Basics:
See you back here in a week or so.
Here’s that river grass,
Laura

What a lovely field! Thanks for sharing, fellow Texan.
See you on the same road! The river grass is awesome! ❤️
